Haringey Edge Towards Title
Haringey Borough U16s moved a step closer to the Harrow Youth League Division 1 Title on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over North Greenford United B. Just one more win is needed to clinch the championship in what is their first season together.
The game started off in the sunshine; however wind and hailstones were to follow before the final whistle. Stefano Fontanini made his comeback from injury and Hayes moved up front to replace the injured Smee. The pitch was in good condition and Haringey used this to dominate from start to finish in an excellent display of quality and organization. The first goal was a well orchestrated move resulting in some neat footwork and an assured finish from in-form Kieren Smith.
At half time Boro were in control and the second half followed the same pattern, all be it with some severe weather for about a 25 minute spell. In this time Kieren Smith had 2 good penalty appeals, the first was given outside the box, whereas there was no doubt about the second one where Smith had his leg taken away from him as he lined up a shot. Another player who is on the top of his game, Gustavo Angel, stepped up to coolly slot the ball home. Although still in control a failure to take some very good chances led to North Greenford scoring with 7 minutes remaining on the counter attack. This made things a little edgy, however the Greens saw out time to take their league record to 13 wins, 1 draw and no defeats.
