Lawrence Hayes Profile

Here is the 6th player profile so far this season...

Name: Lawrence Hayes
DOB: 30th July 1991
Position: Attacking Midfield
Description: Dribbling Wizzard

Lawrence is currently the vice-captain of the club and has started every game this season. However this consistency and reliablity, although impressive, doesn't even begin to describe the talents of Mr. Hayes. Lawrence has outstanding dribbling ability, excellent vision and superb technique. He is an attacking player who plays in a similar way to Rosicky, although Lawrence has a better left foot. He also contributes with a fair share of goals, on average 1 in every 2 games, an excellent return from midfield.

Haringey Hold On

St Lawrence 2- 3 Haringey Borough

After heavy rainfall last night and this morning the Centenary Park pitch where St Lawrence play their home matches became water logged and both sets of players travelled the short distance to play the game at the somewhat better Chase Lodge ground. It was vital that the fixture went ahead with the season coming into the last couple of months with many games still to be played.

Despite this upheaval Haringey started brightly and went 1-0 up through a fine Hayes strike. The lead was soon doubled by a Riccardo Wickham shot that spilled through the otherwise impressive St Lawrence keeper's hands. With the Boro in total domination Smee pulled up with a hamstring injury, this caused unrest as the players didn’t get the message to kick the ball out. With debutant Kieren Smith on for Smee, the following melee from a corner resulted in a goal completely against the run of play. However this turned the game as St Lawrence gained belief and Haringey became sloppy and unsure.

The second half started as the first ended, however good strength from Wickham resulted in a relatively easy finish for the front man to bag a brace. At 3-1 Haringey were relatively comfortable and always the more likely to get the next goal. Again complacency crept into their play though, and it took some outstanding saves from Phouphoullides to keep the 2 goal lead. Two substitutions in quick succession, Vasconcellos for Shiekh and Wills for the Williams-Dinning, seemed to add stability to the side. However with 10 minutes left to play more sloppy defensive play allowed the battling St Lawrence to get a goal back and set up a nervous end to the game. Poor finishing and good goalkeeping meant that Haringey held on to an important 3 point that keeps them at the top of the table.

Manager Rakatahr Hudson stated “the 3 points were a must; we are not happy with the performance but when we get home tonight the league table will not reflect our performance but our results, which have been excellent. The boys know we need to improve certain aspects of our game, but it’s just a case of working hard and making good decisions on the pitch. Despite 2 poor games we have come out with the maximum points and are still in a positive position in our division. We will up our level for the rest of the season and benefit from gained experience today.”

With many other games falling fowl of the weather the only other result from our division today was South Ruislip Rangers 8 – 1 Bessingby Park Rangers.

Next weekend we face St Joseph’s ‘A’ in the League Cup Quarter Final, 1pm Kick Off at Chase Lodge.

Edgy 3 Points For Boro

HARINGEY Borough today picked up their 9th league win of the season by defeating St Lawrence 7-4 at their Chase Lodge home. However in typical 'make life hard' fashion; instead of coming from behind just the once, Boro had to come from behind twice to pick up the win against bottom of the league opposition.

In truth this should have been a comfortable win, but it turned out to be anything but. Within 10 minutes debutant Alex Vasconcellos re-injured his ankle, making way for returning Mansur Sa'asu in a reshuffled line up. A poor start to the game led to 3 St Lawrence attackers lining up to shoot at a stranded Costas Phouphoullides to make it 1-0; although it must be mentioned that Lawrence Hayes had already seen an effort hit the inside of the post by this time. Haringey managed to get in 2-1 up at half-time through Harly Smee and Lawrence Hayes strikes. However stern words at half-time failed to have the desired impact as again Boro defended feebly, allowing St Lawrence to not only draw level but regain the lead!

At 3-2 down captain Chinua Phinn-Archer picked up a serious ankle injury and was replaced by an impressive Vinny WIlls. Manager Rakatahr Hudson then felt it necessary to bring on long term injured Riccardo Wickham, where another week's rest would have been a more ideal solution. However these changes had the desired effect as stand-in captain Hayes scored a penalty and Wickham and Smee both scored 2 each, giving Smee his hatrick.

A final score of 7-4 and 3 points in the bag are consolation for Haringey who will look to improve on their performance when they face the same opposition in the return fixture next week.

Line Up: Phouphoullides, Sheikh, Vasconcellos (Sa'adu), Phinn-Archer (Wills), Bonket, Espana, Christodoulou, Angel, Vickerstaff (Wickham), Hayes, Smee.
Unused Sub: Gaglani

St Lawrence Up Next / Brit Action

Haringey Borough will resume league action this weekend when they face St Lawrence for the first time this season. The game is a 1pm Kick Off at Chase Lodge on Sunday 18th Febuary. New signing Alex Vasconcellos is available for selection; and a few players should be recovered from short-term knocks. However Riccardo Wickham and Stefano Fontanini are both still a couple of weeks away from playing with longer-term injuries to the patella and back respectively.

Also, assistant Manager Ben Corbyn tonight appeared on 'The Brits' in a mastercard advert. Anyone who saw the performance will no doubt agree it truly was 'PRICELESS'. Corbyn is obviously more then just a good football coach, he is talented in other fields; with another advert appearance to be released soon, details to follow when made available. :-)

Football Halted / Vasconcellos Joins

Haringey Borough's game against Ruislip Rangers was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. There has been so much rain (and snow) over the preceding days that no other Division 1 League games took place either.

In fact the whole country saw games postponed with very few going ahead. Haringey will resume next week when they face St Lawrence at home, in what will be their first meeting of the season

Haringey would like to welcome new signing Alex Vasconcellos to the club. Alex is a left sided player and joins from EC1 in the Waltham Forest League. There is expected to be at least 1 more signing before deadline-day later this month.

Stefano Fontanini Profile

Here is our third player profile of the season.

Name: Stefano Fontanini
DOB: 19th November 1990
Position: Full Back / Midfield
Description: Cultured Italian

With ‘the Boro’ without a natural left back to start the season Stefano filled the position after some excellent pre season displays. Although originally a midfielder Stefano has made the position his own and has been a consistent performer. Able with both feet, calm in possession and supremely athletic; Mr Fontanini is an important part of the Haringey team which-ever position he plays.

Boro Reach League Cup Quarter Final

Haringey Borough U16s recovered from going a goal down within 10 minutes to win 3-1 on Sunday at Chase Lodge. The opposition were high flying Hanwell Town 'A' from the Harrow Youth League Premier Division; who were high on confidence having just beaten the team at the top of their table, Forest United, 1-0 last week. The result and performance have given further confidence to the U16 side that they will be more then able to compete in a higher league.
With 7 players missing through injury Borough lined up with new signing Costas Phouphoullides in goal, a back 4 of Stelio, Dennis, Chinua and Stefano, a midfield quartet of Gustavo, Sylvestre, Jack and Lawrence with Harly and Boris up front.
However, Stefano was also struggling prior to kick off and was replaced after 15 minutes by Hassan, who went on to have his best game of the season. This caused a slight reshuffle with Stelio reverting to left back and Hassan filling in at right back.
The opening 10 minutes were very jittery for the home side and Hanwell Town showed their pedigree by taking full advantage with a rasping shot from their star forward finding the back of the net. Like in previous games this spurred Haringey into action and the following 70 minutes saw some inspiring football.
It wasn't until the second half that the Boro found a break-through, Harly Smee scoring from the right side of the area, 15 yards out. Borough played majestic football at times and eventually hit the winning goal, again from Smee, this time slotting past the keeper's from the left hand side of the area. Haringey made their superiority pay with a Sylvestre Espana goal in the last few minutes, his third in 3 games, to tie the game up. Amit Gaglani enjoyed a brief spell up front to help see out the tie, replacing Harly Smee in injury time.

Three Three Thriller

South Ruislip Rangers and Haringey Borough fought out a 3-3 thriller in this 1st V 2nd clash. Haringey went 2-0 up, when in the space of 10 second half minutes South Ruislip scored 3 goals to take the lead. Haringey put on another late late show to equalise in added time through a Luke Williams-Dinning header. Debutant Costas Phouphoullides had a great game in goal pulling off some super saves, and Sly Espana and Harly Smee scored Haringey's other goals either side of half time.

On Sunday we face Hanwell Town A for a place in the League Cup Quarter Final. They are currently in the Harrow Youth League Premier Division and are one of the strongest teams in the competition.
